Matthew Rogers appointed Chief Commercial Officer at GYRO Group

GYRO Group, an Australian digital music distribution and artist services company has appointed Matthew Rogers as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).

Rogers joins GYRO Group following a 14-year tenure as Chief Operating Officer at UNIFIED Music Group, where he oversaw the company’s international growth.

During his time at UNIFIED, Rogers oversaw the company’s expansion from an Australia-based seven-person team to, at its peak, a 100-person global operation with staff across Australia, Europe and North America.

Additionally, Rogers drove the strategy behind heavy music label UNFD and launched STL Tones in the audio plugins and music software space.

Rogers also helped launch UNIFIED’s early response to the 2022 Raising Their Voices report on sexual harms and harassment in the Australian music industry, implementing strategies focused on mental wellbeing, safety, and workplace culture.

He served on the boards of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) for over seven years and spent four years on the board of the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN), including two years as Vice President on the board’s executive.

In his new role, Rogers will manage and and drive the growth of DistroDirect, GYRO Group’s distribution and catalogue management system.

With teams across six continents, DistroDirect has a global reach with over 500 micro-distributors in over 40 markets, and Rogers will help shape the company’s upcoming product development, “accelerated growth”, and market expansion.

He will also drive GYRO Group’s commercial and legal strategy and support the CEO on new label and artist product strategies.

CEO Andy Irvine welcomed the appointment: “We are incredibly excited to welcome Mat to the GYRO Group family.”

“His extensive experience in driving growth and his deep understanding of the independent music landscape will be invaluable as we embark on the next phase of development for DistroDirect and the wider group.”

“Mat’s strategic insights, global networks and commercial acumen will be crucial in achieving our ambitious goals.”

“His track record speaks for itself, and we are confident that his leadership will further strengthen our commercial strategies and market presence. We are thrilled to have his expertise on board.”

“Having witnessed the company’s impressive growth and commitment to the independent music community, I am eager to contribute my experience to further develop DistroDirect and support GYRO Group’s ambitious international expansion plans.”
