Keyshawn Johnson Has Honest Admission About ‘Superteam Era’

The NBA Finals are about to begin, and they will feature two squads that are the opposite of a “superteam.”

Does this upcoming championship mark the end of a chapter ruled by these gigantic, menacing teams?

Keyshawn Johnson appeared on “Speak,” and he said superteams are finished.

“To me, [the superteam era’s] been gone. It’s been gone a long time ago, because everybody that continues to try to do it, whether it’s Brooklyn, they failed. Phoenix, failed. Philadelphia has failed. The young teams, those teams are the ones in the mix right now with the homegrown players that are young, getting down the floor,” Johnson said.

It’s ironic that, as the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers will battle in the Finals, the Phoenix Suns will be trying to break apart their core.

They may be the last superteam for a very long time.

There was a period when these kinds of squads were all the rage, especially when the Miami Heat, featuring LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, were ruling the league.

But over time, their lack of success had analysts questioning if the model could continue.

Now the NBA has strict tax apron rules, making it harder and harder for front offices to spend so much cash creating these superteams.

They simply cannot offer the monster contracts that make all of this possible.

Meanwhile, other teams that have been slowly but steadily cobbling together winning crews are growing more popular.

The Thunder and Pacers are prime examples of that.

But will it stay that way for long, or will the idea of superteams begin to loom again soon?

They were widespread once before, and they could be again, especially if they start finding more success.
