Roger Gorayeb tapped as Strong Group consultant

MANILA, Philippines — Days after his move from head coach to Capital1 consultant, Roger Gorayeb signed as the new team consultant of Strong Group Athletics’ high school and college squads.

Gorayeb, who built the Solar Spikers from scratch to one of the promising expansion teams in the PVL, was given a new role by Capital1 as consultant on Monday, with Alas Pilipinas coach Jorge Souza De Brito taking over his post.

After three days, Strong Group Athletics, which owns two PVL teams—Farm Fresh and ZUS Coffee—announced that the 39-time NCAA champion coach for San Sebastian will oversee the young talents from different schools supported by the company.

Gorayeb steered the Lady Stags to 22 NCAA titles, 11 in high school, and six in beach volleyball. He also won a grand slam in the V-League in 2015 with two titles with PLDT and one with National University.

Strong Group is supporting the University of Santo Tomas girls’ volleyball team, and University of the Philippines women’s squad as well as NCAA’s College of Saint Benilde and Letran.

“Masaya ako kasi mayroon pa palang nagtitiwala sa akin,” said Gorayeb, whose signing was attended by  SGA owner Frank Lao and volleyball head Kiara Cruz.

“Sobrang sarap sa feeling kasi hindi ako mawawala sa volleyball. Passion ko talaga magturo ng mga bata. Super saya.”

SGA said that signing Gorayeb is a “way of honoring the legacy of a man who has devoted his life to the sport” and his contract is  “for as long as he can mentor our athletes.”

“It’s truly an honor to have Coach Roger Gorayeb guiding our student-athletes from the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Saint Benilde, and Letran,” said Cruz.
