MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo Blue Eagle Lyann De Guzman is eager to spread her wings in the pros after joining Nxled as the fourth overall pick in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft on Sunday night at Novotel.
“I’m really happy. I didn’t expect to be in the top four of the draft. I’m super excited to join the team, especially since I’ve already played with about half of them before,” said De Guzman in Filipino.

De Guzman, who played four seasons with Ateneo, looks forward to her reunion with former teammates Jaja Maraguinot and Jaycel Delos Reyes and teaming up with ex-college rivals Lucille Almonte, Jov Fernandez, Jai Atienza, Krich Macaslang, Lycha Ebon, and Janel Delerio as well as veterans Chiara Permentilla, EJ Laure, and May Luna-Lumahan.
The young wing spiker can’t wait to see what the next chapter has to offer after growing under Brazilian coach Sergio Veloso to learning a new system and culture under Italian Ettore Guidetti.
“It’s such an honor to be coached by people like Coach Ettore and Coach Sergio. Their coaching styles and systems are very unique, and for me, it’s another great chance to grow and improve my skills even more,” she said.

As promised, De Guzman will bring her leadership to the young Chameleons, who ended up cellar dwellers in the past two conferences.
“I can already see that this team has a lot of potential and is still growing since it’s fairly new. I’m looking forward to learning their system and contributing what I’ve learned from Coach Sergio,” she said.
