Kirk Cousins Has Reportedly Made A Decision About Attending Mandatory Minicamp

Before the 2024 NFL season, Kirk Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million contract to play for the Atlanta Falcons.

It looked like the franchise had faith in Cousins even after a torn Achilles wiped out the last half of his 2023 season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Then, the Falcons shocked everyone when they selected quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Cousins started the first 14 games of the season and passed for more than 3,500 yards with 18 touchdowns, but he also tossed a career-high 16 interceptions.

That led the Falcons to turn to Penix for the final three games.

With Penix now the presumed starter, Cousins reportedly wants out of Atlanta, but he is expected to show up to mandatory minicamp, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

“Cousins did not attend the team’s voluntary OTAs in late May, but was present for workouts in April. His preference is still to be traded to a team where he could start,” Russini wrote on X.

It’s possible that Cousins will be traded before or during the 2025 season.

Before Aaron Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, there were rumors that Cousins could have wound up there.

Also, with training camps on the horizon, and injuries inevitable, there is a chance that a team will need a quarterback with Cousins’ ability.
