Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement considered day-to-day with lower-body injury

The Toronto Blue Jays’ third baseman was removed in the ninth inning of the team’s 5-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals with what manager John Schneider called a lower-body injury.

Clement suffered the injury on a diving attempt at a Nolan Arenado single in the bottom of the eighth. Schneider and Blue Jays trainers came to check on the 29-year-old, who stayed in the game and finished the inning.

“He’s fine, being that he’s a hockey fan, we’re gonna call it a lower-body injury,” Schneider told reporters.

For his part, Clement dismissed any concerns over the injury.

“Just precautionary because we have the off day tomorrow,” he said. “I guess you could just call it a defensive replacement.”

Clement went 3-for-4 with a double and a homer in the win, boosting his slash line to .280/.317/.406 on the season.
