Brian Windhorst Reveals What He’s Hearing About Jason Kidd, Knicks

The New York Knicks want Jason Kidd to be their next head coach, and Kidd is definitely intrigued.

There is just one problem: the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd is still under contract with the Mavericks, and Brian Windhorst recently reported on the situation while appearing on “Get Up.”

“The Knicks absolutely would like to hire Jason Kidd to be their next head coach. The question is, will the Dallas Mavericks allow that? That’s really where this is. It would be in the Mavericks’ court here. If the Mavericks would agree to send Jason Kidd to the Knicks, I believe he would be with the Knicks,” Windhorst said.

The Mavericks have the upper hand here.

They recently signed Kidd to a two-year contract extension, which means the team wouldn’t give him up for just anything.

Instead, if they were okay with losing Kidd, they would have to agree to a trade with the Knicks.

It doesn’t happen often, but coaches are traded at times, and the Mavericks would probably walk away with at least a few draft picks if they parted ways with Kidd.

It’s not clear if the Knicks have reached out to the Mavericks and formally asked for an interview with Kidd.

According to Windhorst, any sort of interview would just be a formality because the Knicks want him badly.

If he wishes to take the job, and the Mavericks are willing to let him go, he will be the next head coach of the Knicks.

This offseason will be filled with a lot of trade rumors and breaking news, but right now, everyone is focused on a potential trade featuring one of the most respected coaches in the league.
