MANILA, Philippines — Converge’s Schonny Winston showed poise beyond his years in leading the FiberXers past San Miguel Beer in a thrilling 100-97 win on Wednesday night at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Even against a powerhouse team like the Beermen, Winston dominated on offense to help the FiberXers finish their elimination round strong with a 7-4 card.

Make no mistake, though—Winston didn’t see his impressive performance as a statement game.
“I feel like statement games should come in the Playoffs,” said the 27-year-old guard. “This game mattered, but playoffs is when it really gets turned up and the heat’s on you.”
The former La Salle standout came off the bench and torched the Beermen with 25 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block in the upset.

Helping Winston in the effort was big man Justin Arana, who chipped in 21 points to help take down the Philippine Cup heavyweights.
Winston hopes to carry the same form into the postseason, but he’s keeping himself grounded until the moment arrives.
“I’m just staying humble. We played hard today, but we have to continue to work hard, go back into the lab, and get ready for the Playoffs.”
Last conference, in the Commissioner’s Cup, Converge bowed out of the quarterfinals at the hands of Rain or Shine.
