It’s no secret that WWE has done record-breaking business ever since it was acquired by TKO in September 2023. However, there are lingering fears of huge behind-the-scenes tensions, according to the legendary Jeff Jarrett, who feels TKO wouldn’t hesitate to sell off the global juggernaut if it didn’t generate enough profits.
In the last few weeks, a few business decisions taken by WWE CCO Triple H and TKO have come under scrutiny. While it regularly releases talent as part of cost-cutting measures, its decision to cut ties with R-Truth and Carlito was criticized by the WWE Universe. The backlash for the former’s exit was so much so that they had no option to bring him back at last week’s Money in the Bank.
On a recent edition of his My World podcast, wrestling legend and current AEW star Jeff Jarrett did a deep dive into WWE under TKO’s management. Jarrett believes that things weren’t the same as they were in Vince McMahon’s era and that TKO likely was more focused on generating profits. He added that if WWE didn’t do the desired business, the parent company might even consider selling it off.
“To me, this is Jeff talking to Jeff, the clarity of it at the end of day Vince is a third generation promoter, if you will. At the end of the day, every decision he made was based on what he thought the wrestling fan wanted. The rules are rewritten, those rules no longer apply. TKO does what is best to get a return on investment. They are their master, if you will, and you can’t serve two masters. Their master, if you will, is private equity. Their powers that be get the return on investment, the highest return they can possibly [get]. When they quit getting the highest returns that they can, they’re gonna sell the asset,” said Jarrett. Vince Russo thinks Vince McMahon could be planning to regain control of WWE from TKO
A few days back, Vince Russo sent out a tweet where he made a wild prediction about how Vince McMahon could be aiming to take back control of WWE. The veteran writer explained that McMahon and his Saudi business associates have been working on a plan and that they could soon get into talks with TKO.
“If you don’t think there’s anything there with @VinceMcMahon and the Saudis and their PLOY to buy the @WWE, it’s because you Don’t Know @VinceMcMahon. It’s REAL, and it may have been the Plan from Day 1!!!” Vince Russo tweeted.
It remains to be seen how things pan out in the coming months, as so far, there has been no concrete hint of any backstage shakeup within the global juggernaut.
