MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala dominated Valentina Ryser of Switzerland, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinal of the Women’s Tennis Association 125 Lexus Ilkley Open on Thursday.
The 20-year-old Filipino advanced to the elite eight of her second grass tournament this year as part of her buildup for the Wimbledon that starts late this month.

Eala waxed hot right from the get-go and broke a 2-2 tie in the second set, winning four straight games to win the round of 16 match.
Eala took down Lizette Cabrera of Australia, 7-6 (4), 6-3, on Wednesday, following her early exit in the Birmingham Open early this month.
Eala is currently World No.77 after her early exit in the French Open.
