A dynamic and diverse field of veteran triathletes and first-timers is set to compete in the Sunrise Sprint (S2) on Sunday in Subic Bay.
The short-distance triathlon features a 750-meter open-water swim, 20-kilometer bike ride and 5-kilometer run. It will be held alongside the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay, with the Ironkids event scheduled Saturday.

S2 serves as an entry-level race designed to ease athletes into the sport. It uses an Olympic-style course and is seen as a stepping stone for those eyeing longer events.
“The Sunrise Sprint is more than just a race—it’s a launchpad,” said Princess Galura, president and general manager of the organizing Sunrise Events, Inc. “It’s where tomorrow’s Ironman finishers get their start, learning the ropes, building confidence and discovering the joy of triathlon racing.”
“Whether you’re a first-time racer or a competitive athlete refining your form, S2 offers a space to grow, compete, and be inspired,” she added.
Galura said the format gives newcomers a chance to build confidence while still offering competitive action for more experienced athletes.
Lucienne Aragones of Muntinlupa City, runner-up in the last S2 in Palawan, returns as a favorite in the women’s division. She will be joined by Rachelle Guieb, Katrina Bisuña, Veronica Pamintuan, Hanzel Barrameda, Gabriela Hirang, Mariel Montebon, Shirra de Guia, Katrina Salazar, Isabelle Manlulo and Atheena Lopez.
The men’s side features young contenders Caleb Carlos, Miguel Souza and Kurt Julian, along with James Van Ramoga, Gardson Quimado, Yuen Verbruggen, Chris Cabico, Josh Valencia, Joshua Fajardo, Ron Mazo and Elijah Ducot.
Athletes from Poland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Brazil, Israel, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands are also joining, adding an international flavor to the event.
The S2 will also award winners in age-group categories from 16-19 up to 65-69.
The race begins with a rolling swim start at 5:50 a.m. at the Subic Bay Boardwalk. Participants have 30 minutes to complete the swim, 1 hour and 45 minutes for the bike leg starting at Dewey Avenue, and 2 hours and 30 minutes for the run starting at Waterfront Road and Labitan.
