On Friday, June 13, the 54-year-old veteran entered Oakmont after shooting 4-over on the opening day. He picked up a birdie on the par-5 4th hole but then closed the front nine with two back-to-back bogeys. On the back nine, he made a birdie on the 12th hole and looked well inside the cutline.
After shooting three straight pars, Phil Mickelson three-putted the 15th hole for a double bogey. He repeated the same error on the penultimate hole to make another double bogey, which cost him the cut.
