Mark Daigneault Gets Honest About Game 4’s Officiating

The Oklahoma City Thunder got their act together on Friday night, coming back from a deficit and beating the Indiana Pacers in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

A huge part of their victory was the number of free throws they had.

As usual, there were complaints from some fans about the refs and how many whistles they blew.

But Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault didn’t have a problem with how the game was called and spoke about that with Anthony Slater.

“There were a crap ton of fouls. That’s why there were a crap ton of free throws. I thought the referees did a good job,” Daigneault said, per Slater.

Slater noted that the Thunder shot 38 free throws, while the Pacers put up 33 for a combined 71 shots at the charity stripe.

A lot of fans have a hard time with how fouls slow down the game, putting a pause on everything so players can stand at the free throw line and make their shots.

And sometimes the fouls are unnecessary, or the refs make the wrong decisions.

But Daigneault believes they were doing their job on Friday, and he likes how they performed.

Would he have said something different if his team didn’t win?

All season long, some people have said that the Thunder, and especially Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, have a knack for drawing fouls and bumping up their score.

Even if that’s true, it’s all part of the game and something that fans just have to accept.

They saw it all on Friday night, and the Thunder had both good and bad moments.

Ultimately, they came out on top, and the fouls helped them get there.
