Will Robertson will make his long-awaited major league debut Sunday for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 27-year-old was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo on June 11 after Nathan Lukes was placed on the injured list.
Robertson was hitting .288/.410/.582 with 12 home runs and a .991 OPS over 51 games in Triple-A this season.
Toronto selected Robertson in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He has appeared in 439 career minor league games, hitting 65 home runs and 238 RBI.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider had high praise for Robertson when asked about him earlier in the week.
“Things happen at different times in guys’ careers,” Schneider said. “I think that he’s figured out some ways to help him move a little bit more efficiently … he’s been impressive (in the minors), and impressive when he comes over to (big-league) spring training games. Whenever you’re doing what he’s doing, it’s not going unnoticed here.”
