San Antonio could be one of the best-run franchises in NBA history, and next year they are well set up to take the league by storm.
With Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo a chance to get traded to the Spurs, they have so many different routes they can take.
While they didn’t have a very good season this year, their draft lottery gods blessed them and they now have the second overall pick to add to a core of rookie of the year Stephon Castle, the newly acquired De’Aaron Fox and young French superstar Victor Wembanyama.
Dylan Harper is the consensus No.2 pick and while he is certainly not a position of need there is little to no reason for the Spurs to not add such a talent this high in the draft.
This team alone could easily be a force to be reckoning with over the course of the next five years, but adding Durant could add a weapon which could make them unstoppable.
To get Durant it shouldn’t cost more than a package assembled around the likes of Jeremy Sochan and the 14th pick. Adding Durant would add a proven playoff performer and even at the age of 37, he is still lethal and would add some much-needed shooting.
If the Spurs could add Durant their starting lineup would look something like this:
Pg – De’Aaron Fox
Sg – Stephon Castle
Sf – Devon Vassell
Pf – Kevin Durant
C – Victor Wembanyama
This team has no glaring holes, with a little issue on size and defence but their offence should be so unstoppable that it will be little concern.
The Pacers have provided such a strong example of how the Spurs can build their philosophy, by outscoring teams.
With Wembanyama as a defensive anchor and Castle as a great point of attack of defender the Spurs should be able to get enough stops to win north of 55 games.

The main reason however that they will be so dominant is that their best players are on such cheap rookie deals that the flexibility they have is unbelievable.
When your best player is not on a supermax it allows the bench and rest of the starts to be filled with ease. With so many teams being handicapped by the second apron in the salary cap, the Spurs can trade for Durant without having to give too many important assets.
Castle and Harper will also be under team control on a small deal for the foreseeable future which is so exciting for the Spurs.
It is hard to not be excited for the next five years of basketball, especially if you’re a Spurs fan.
