Insider Names ‘Clear-Cut Favorite’ For Jets’ WR2 Job

The New York Jets are kicking the tires on a new era.

There will be a new quarterback and a new offense.

As such, some positions might be up for grabs.

Garrett Wilson will continue to be the undisputed WR1 and alpha pass-catcher, but there are still some questions about the rest of the offense.

According to ESPN insider Rich Cimini, former Detroit Lions WR Josh Reynolds is the early favorite to be the WR2 right now.

Moreover, that also opens the door for Allen Lazard to be on the move at some point:

“Josh Reynolds is the clear-cut favorite for the WR2 job, ahead of Allen Lazard, whose name will continue to circulate in trade rumors now that Rodgers has landed with the Steelers. If the Jets decide to move Lazard — a big if — it probably wouldn’t be until the end of the preseason. But only if they’re comfortable with their receiver depth,” Cimini wrote.

Lazard joined the Jets when they traded for Aaron Rodgers.

However, he hasn’t made much of an impact whenever the future Hall of Famer hasn’t been his quarterback.

Notably, now that Rodgers isn’t there, it wouldn’t even be a surprise to see the Pittsburgh Steelers trade for him, especially given their evident shortage of talent at wide receiver.

The Jets are building their offense around Justin Fields, which is a first for him since he entered the league.

This will most likely be his final opportunity to prove that he can be a star and a starter at the pro level.

And while he’s never been known for being the most accurate and proficient passer, developing a strong chemistry with his wideouts will be of the utmost importance.

The Jets might not have a star-studded wide receivers corps, but they could have a more balanced offense with a dynamic quarterback now behind center.
