Time to blow up struggling Knights

Knights fans… look away.

For too many years now, the Newcastle Knights, once renowned for their love of rugby league and a hard working, proud town, have been the laughing stock of the NRL.

When will this change? Not anytime soon, unfortunately.

Not when they sack their Head Coach, Adam O’Brien, who somehow managed to get his agent to place a $2 million contract termination clause into his contract in the Hunter.

Not when they sack Peter O’Sullivan, the Head of Recruitment, who somehow thought it was wise to pay massive money, record-breaking money, to an overrated five-eighth who has not done, or looks likely to do, anything in the game.

Let’s get this very clear – O’Sullivan and the Knights signed Dylan Brown to a ten-year, $14 million contract. Not Isaiya Katoa, who they should be spending that sort of money on. Not Nathan Cleary – who they should be splashing that amount of cash on. Dylan Brown. He is not even near the top 20 players in the game.

And while on recruitment, they have lost Leo Thompson, who along with Dylan Lucas, are their only standout forwards. And who have they replaced him with? No one!

Add to this Jackson Hastings who is on a reported $750,000 playing reserve grade.

All the while the Knights sit in 15th on the ladder, as the worst attacking team in the competition. They are only kept off the bottom of the table by the woeful Titans, and struggling, but improving Parramatta.

So Knights fans, stand up and be heard. Your football club board are letting all of you down. Year after year. And it is not going to stop unless change is made at the top.

Sack O’Brien and O’Sullivan on their huge, fat contracts. Bite the bullet and move forward.

But most importantly, sack the board who made these disastrous appointments. Change is needed in Newcastle.

Now.
