Blackhawks place defenceman T.J. Brodie on waivers for contract buyout


The Chicago Blackhawks continue a busy off-season by placing veteran defenceman TJ Brodie on waivers in order to buyout his contract, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.

Brodie, 35, agreed to a two-year, $7.5-million contract with the Blackhawks in free agency last off-season.

According to PuckPedia, the buyout cap hit for Brodie will be $3.23 million for the 2025-26 season and $258,000 in the 2026-27 season.

In 54 games last season, Brodie had two goals and 10 points while averaging 15:37 of ice time per game.  

During his 15 seasons in the NHL with the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Blackhawks, the Chatham, Ont., native has scored 58 goals and put up 358 points in 962 career games.

The buyout window is open for teams until June 30.
