Canada let slip a golden opportunity to take a stranglehold in their group Saturday in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in Houston, dropping an extra-time lead and settling for a 1-1 tie against Curacao.

Canada still leads Group B with four points after two games, but now Curacao has edged ahead of El Salvador with two points. Canada will face El Salvador on Tuesday, while Curacao takes on pointless Honduras.

Nearly four minutes into extra time up 1-0, the Canadians lost possession near midfield amid sloppy play, and Curacao’s Joshua Zimmerman collected the ball, finding teammate Jeremy Antonisse breaking free to his left.

Antonisse made a long run to earn a one-on-one opportunity against goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, juked twice, then scored through the netminder for the equalizer.

Nathan Saliba scored Canada’s goal in the ninth minute, collecting a deflection of a free kick and burying a strike into the bottom left of the net.
