Kevin Durant is set to add another chapter to his long and winding NBA story.
The Phoenix Suns have reportedly dealt the 15-time all-star to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks ending his fruitless run in the desert, ESPN’s Shams Charania posted on Sunday.
Durant has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Suns since being dealt there from the Brooklyn Nets at the 2023 trade deadline.
He originally joined the team hoping to form a superteam alongside Devin Booker, but the Suns’ efforts were ultimately in vain, losing in the second round in 2023, the first round in 2024 and were unable to even make the playoffs this past season.
Despite the Suns’ lack of success, Durant has remained productive. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7 per cent from the field and 43.0 per cent from three-point range in 2024-25, his age-36 season.
Over the last few years of his 18-year NBA career, however, Durant has dealt with a plethora of injuries. Other than the 2023-24 season, Durant has been unable to breach 65 regular-season games since suffering a torn Achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals.
Though he comes with some risk, the Rockets will only have to take on one year of money for his services, as he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season. He’ll be on the books for $54.7 million next year.
