Sony Music Publishing has promoted Margherita Gnech to Managing Director of Italy, effective Wednesday (June 25).
Gnech will remain based out of Milan, reporting directly to Sony Music Publishing President, International Guy Henderson.
She joined SMP in 2020 as Senior Manager, Legal & Business Affairs, and most recently served as Head of Legal & Business Affairs. In her new role, Gnech will oversee creative and business operations across SMP Italy.
Italy’s recorded music market, the third largest in the European Union, saw an 8.5% year-on-year increase in revenue in 2024, driven by a 17.1% increase in subscription streaming revenues, according to data from the Federation of the Italian Music Industry.

Gnech began her career as a copyright lawyer in the IP and TMT department at Osborne Clarke in Milan, and spent time at Simmons & Simmons.

The promotion comes as Sony Music Publishing Italy continues to grow its roster, which already includes songwriters and composers including Ennio Morricone, Pino Daniele, Franco Battiato, Måneskin, as well as Damiano and Victoria’s solo projects, Andrea Laszlo De Simone, Ditonellapiaga, Cosmo, and La Rappresentante di Lista, among others.
Sony Music Publishing has made several leadership changes in recent months. In April, SMP UK promoted Sarah Gabrielli to Head of A&R, reporting to President and Co-Managing Director, SMP UK & SVP International David Ventura.
In February, SMP promoted Henry Naldjian to Chief Technology Officer, reporting to Sony Music Publishing’s Chief Information Officer Bill Starke. And in February, SMP promoted Katie Welle to President, Head of US A&R, succeeding Walter Jones. Welle reports to SMP Chairman/CEO Jon Platt.
