The Ducks traded netminder John Gibson to the Detroit Red Wings, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday, ending a 12-year tenure with the club.
In 29 games this year, Gibson is 11-11-2 with a .912 save percentage and 2.77 goals against average. Both stats represent his best marks since 2018-19.
Going to Anaheim are goaltender Petr Mrazek, a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick.
Mrazek was traded from the Blackhawks to the Red Wings. During his time in Detroit, the 33-year-old made five starts going 2-2 while posting a 2.49 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
Mrazek has appeared in 428 career games where he has a 180-176-40 record with a 2.85 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage while playing for the Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Blackhawks and Red Wings.
Gibson, the 31-year-old from Pittsburgh, was picked in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Ducks.
He made his debut in the 2013-14 season and has held his share of the crease ever since, playing 500 games with Anaheim despite repeated injuries.
He is signed for another two seasons at a $6.4 million AAV.
Meanwhile, the youth movement in Anaheim continues as 24-year-old Lukas Dostal now seems set to take over as the full-time starter.
Anaheim sits 12th in the Western Conference with 54 points in 54 games and is well out of the playoff picture.
