D’Angelo Russell split his time last season between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets, and now he might be on the move again.
According to Marc Stein, per Evan Sidery, Russell could be headed to a new team before next season starts, and the Dallas Mavericks are currently viewed as favorites.
As expected, Russell would be viewed solely as a “temporary starter” in Dallas, as they await Kyrie Irving to return from his torn ACL.

Russell posted 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists during his time with the Nets in 2024-25.
Before that, it was 12.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists with the Lakers.
Russell would love to remain a starting point guard, but the Mavericks have bigger plans with Irving when he is healthy.
Of course, Russell could impress and somehow work his way into the starting rotation long-term.
His last few years have been up-and-down, with some fans calling Russell inconsistent and not putting in 100 percent effort.
He is ready to show people what he is made of, and Dallas might be the perfect place to do it.
It’s not entirely clear how long Irving will be out, but his recovery process will surely be lengthy.
Will other teams be in the hunt for Russell, and will the Mavericks have competition to sign him?
For the right price and on the right team, he could be very attractive.
Right now, it sounds like the Mavericks are the frontrunners, but a lot can change during free agency, especially as more trades occur and roster vacancies pop up.
