The Philadelphia 76ers sought and found another big man in the draft this year, selecting Johni Broome as the 35th overall pick on Thursday night.
Broome is coming off a great run in college and is ready to convert his collegiate skills into professional ones.
Speaking to Keith Pompey, Broome opened up about why he was selected and why he’s the right fit for the Sixers.
“I think we’re here to play basketball. They thought I was a good basketball player. All the things that go inside of it can be taken however you wanna take it,” Broome said. “But at the end of the day, we’re still playing basketball. So I think I contribute to winning. I’m a good teammate. I’m a good guy to have in an organization. So I think that’s why they chose a guy like me.”

During his final college season, Broome averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game.
He was one of the reasons why Auburn went all the way to the Final Four, and now Sixers fans are excited to see what he can do in Philadelphia.
He’s an aggressive player and a great rebounder, which could definitely help the team out.
Strong, physical, young, and driven – Broome has multiple characteristics that the Sixers want.
Broome has his downsides, such as his speed and some of his leaping abilities, but he has room to develop and more experience on the court because he is 22 years old.
Will he get a lot of time on the court during the next season?
The 76ers are coming back from a really bad season, and they will need to see big improvements.
Can Broome provide them, or will he spend most of his time on the sidelines?
He sounds excited and ready to start playing, but no one knows how often they’ll see Broome play for the Sixers in 2025-26.
