West Indies cricketer accused of sexual assault offences against multiple women

A West Indies international cricketer, reportedly in the team’s Test squad against Australia, is facing multiple sexual assault allegations.

News broke midway through the Windies’ 159-run loss to Australia in Barbados that a woman has hired a legal firm to represent her in a case against the as yet unnamed player, who reportedly hails from Guyana in South America.

It has been reported that 11 women, including an 18-year old, have made complaints against the player.

According to Guyanese media outlet Kaieteur Sports, the assault against the 18-year old occured in March 2023 in Berbice, a region of Guyana, in which the player ‘ripped off her pants’, according to a quote provided to the outlet by the alleged victim’s mother.

The report claims a police report was filed the next day, but the victim’s family alleging that investigators leaked information about the case to the player’s family, and that local authorities have sat on their hands since his return from a tour of Australia.

“The allegations that were levelled by the victim were levelled two years ago,” lawyer Nigel Hughes, representing law firm Hughes, Fields and Stoby said on West Indian TV station SportsMax TV.

“An investigation was conducted and we understand that there were recommendations by the office of public prosecutions to institute charges.

“I think the evidence is pretty strong in relation to what is happening here.”

“Cricket West Indies has not received any communication or official information and is therefore unable to comment at this time,” a statement from the sporting body released to News Corp reads.
