The New York Mets continued their recent slump on Saturday afternoon by getting blown out by the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-2, dropping the first two games of the series and now losing 12 of their past 15 games. It’s one thing to be in a mid-season slump, but it’s really starting to get concerning when you are getting blown out by one of the worst teams in the league and go into Sunday’s game on the verge of being swept by them.
Perhaps that is why the Mets players decided to push one of the first panic buttons a team can push when things start to slip away — they held a players’ only meeting after the game.
Nobody really went into much detail about what was discussed during the meeting, but shortstop Francisco Lindor tried to paint an optimistic picture of everybody still pulling for everybody else.
