Apple Music to establish new studio space in Los Angeles

Apple Music is opening a 15,000-square-foot studio space in Los Angeles this summer, joining rival Spotify in establishing a physical presence in the city.

Spotify launched its Los Angeles creative hub in December 2021, spanning 155,000 square feet and features studios to record music, podcasts and videos, and host events. Spotify’s studio has already hosted artists including Japanese Breakfast, Avril Lavigne, and FINNEAS, among many others.

Now Apple Music is making its own move into the physical content creation. The three-story studio complex marks Apple Music‘s push beyond digital distribution into content creation as the platform competes with Spotify and YouTube Music in the streaming space.

The planned facility will house two radio studios equipped with Spatial Audio technology and adaptable setups for live interviews, casual chats, or impromptu performances, said Apple.

It will also feature a 4,000-square-foot soundstage for performances and video shoots, a photo and social media lab, edit room, and green room to support real-time content creation, and private booths for songwriting, podcasting, and one-on-one interviews.

“Apple Music Radio has always been a home for storytelling and artistry, serving as a space for bold conversations and surprising moments.”

Apple has also installed a dedicated Spatial Audio mixing room with a 9.2.4 PMC speaker system designed for “next-level sound production,” the company added.

Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s co-head, said: “Apple Music Radio has always been a home for storytelling and artistry, serving as a space for bold conversations and surprising moments.”

“With this new studio, we are furthering our commitment to creating a space for artists to create, connect, and share their vision.”

The studio will “anchor” what Apple describes as a global network of creative hubs, joining existing facilities in New York, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, and Nashville. The company plans additional studios “soon,” but declined to specify the locations.

Apple said: “With this launch, the service continues to innovate, not just in how music is streamed, but also in how it’s made, experienced, and shared. From radio to live performance, to fan engagement and content creation, this new studio will serve as a creative home for the next decade of music.”

The studio opening comes as Apple Music celebrates its 10th anniversary, which includes a countdown of the platform’s 500 most-streamed songs and special programming throughout the week beginning Tuesday (July 1). Apple will also launch “Replay All Time,” allowing subscribers to access their complete listening history since joining the service.

The launch of Apple Music’s LA studio comes amid the increasing competition in the music streaming market. Spotify maintains its lead with 678 million monthly active users as of Q1 2025. Apple Music doesn’t publish its MAU data, but according to Statista, the platform had 95 million subscribers worldwide in June 2024.
