The Oklahoma City Thunder just won a championship with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and they don’t want him going anywhere.
On Tuesday morning, Shams Charania reported that Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder just agreed to an eye-popping four-year, $285 million super maximum contract extension.
That is the richest annual salary for a player in league history and a stunning statement about just how much the Thunder believes in Gilgeous-Alexander.

Gilgeous-Alexander is the reigning MVP, Western Conference Finals MVP, and Finals MVP.
There was no doubt that the Thunder would do anything they needed to keep him on the team for the long-term future.
They view him as the face of the franchise, now and forever, and don’t want him to even think about moving.
With this sort of salary, there is no doubt that Gilgeous-Alexander will remain happy in OKC.
He loves his team, coaches, and fans, and has full faith in the road ahead.
The Thunder get to enjoy a nice summer break, celebrating their success before coming back in 2025-26.
Even though a few teams, like the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets, are active in trades, the Thunder will still be favorites to win it all in the new season.
There were questions about what they could achieve, but they were able to silence them all by earning their first title.
Now they will be tasked with attempting to do it all again.
Gilgeous-Alexander is a massive part of their plans and road map for the future.
And this new deal ensures that he will be there until at least 2031.
This is big news coming out of Oklahoma City, but not at all surprising considering all the success and glory that Gilgeous-Alexander has brought the team.
