Lions QB Nathan Rourke to start vs. Alouettes, Montreal’s Alexander out

The B.C. Lions’ star quarterback will start against the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday, the team confirmed Thursday.

The Canadian pivot has been on the sidelines for the Lions’ last two games after suffering an oblique injury late in a Week 2 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

With Rourke unable to go, veteran signal caller Jeremiah Masoli started both games under centre. The Lions lost both games with Masoli at the helm, dropping them to 1-3 on the season.

In the Lions’ lone win of the season in Week 1, Rourke was excellent as he completed 26-of-36 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-14 win over the Edmonton Elks.

His return will be a big boost for the Lions as they look to avoid a 1-4 start.

The quarterback news wasn’t quite as good for Montreal, as the team officially ruled out starter Davis Alexander on Thursday.

Alexander has been dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered late in a Week 3 win over the Elks.

It’s the second straight game Alexander will miss after leading the Als to a 3-0 start prior to his injury. McLeod Bethel-Thompson will start in Alexander’s place.
