The Beermen were the first to take two straight games in the best-of-seven affair, thanks to the efforts of star guard CJ Perez, as they moved closer to a Finals berth.

“We finally got back-to-back wins after a long time. That’s also what Chris Ross told us—let’s try to win back-to-back,” said Perez after their 103-92 victory over the Gin Kings at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

“It’ll be harder in the next game, so we need to rest and adjust our defense.”

Perez cracked the 30-point barrier for the first time in a while, pouring in 31 points on 61.9 percent shooting, along with three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 33 minutes of action.

The 2024 Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference came through when San Miguel needed it most, especially with June Mar Fajardo still dealing with an injury.

“Actually, I just try to run our usual things. It’s big that Kuya June isn’t a hundred percent but coach (Leo Austria) gave me the trust to move the offense even if Kuya June isn’t a hundred percent.”

Despite nursing a calf injury, Fajardo still managed a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists.

Perez and the Beermen now have a chance to close out the series in Game 6 on Sunday at the same venue.
