Giants Reportedly ‘Preferred’ 1 Veteran QB After Visits

The New York Giants knew they had to improve their quarterback situation ahead of this season.

The Daniel Jones debacle left a big void, and they explored multiple options.

First, they tried to trade for Matthew Stafford, but to no avail.

Then, they reportedly tried to make a run at Aaron Rodgers, but he wanted to take more time to figure out whether he wanted to continue playing.

The Giants ultimately signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson.

Judging by their careers, most people assume that Wilson was brought in as the top choice.

However, a recent report shows that some within the organization saw it the other way around.

“There are those inside the franchise who preferred Jameis Winston to Wilson, in terms of how they came off in their visits before both signed with the Giants,” Paul Schwartz wrote, via JPAFootball.

Truth be told, neither poses a major threat to the rest of the NFC East right now, which may be why the Giants also added Jaxson Dart in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Wilson or Winston likely will be an upgrade over Jones, but it’s not like the bar is high.

Wilson left plenty to be desired in the second half of his lone season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he hasn’t been an MVP-caliber quarterback since he left the Seattle Seahawks.

As for Winston, he boasts impressive arm talent and athleticism, but he’s about to enter his 11th year in the league and has yet to make adjustments to avoid mistakes and turnovers.

The Giants’ best bet for a franchise quarterback right now might be Dart.

Then again, the rookie might only take the field this season if injuries strike or the Giants fall out of contention quickly.
