Seeker Music acquires Jay Sean’s catalog, along with music rights from ‘Bobby Bass’ Larow and Cardiak

Los Angeles-headquartered music publishing and record company Seeker Music has acquired the catalog of British rapper Jay Sean, and that of his longtime collaborator Robert “Bobby Bass” Larow.

The company has also announced it acquired the publishing catalog of American producer Carl McCormick, aka, Cardiak. The value of the transactions was not disclosed.

Seeker, which was founded by songwriter Evan Bogart with backing from M&G Investments, says the catalog acquisitions reflect two of its core tenets: A focus on enduring modern-day hits and global expansion.

Jay Sean holds the distinction of being the first solo artist of South Asian extraction to top Billboard’s Hot 100, and the only one to hold two simultaneous top 10 tracks. His hits include tracks like Down feat. Lil Wayne and Do You Remember feat. Sean Paul and Lil Jon, both of which Larow co-wrote and produced.

Sean’s track Ride It was remixed by DJ Regard in 2019 and went viral on TikTok, landing Platinum certification in the US and 3x Platinum in the UK.

As a collaborator, Sean has worked with the likes of Gucci Mane, Mary J. Blige, Pitbull, Craig David and others. He’s known as a pioneer of Punjabi-Pop fusion, and a member of the Rishi Rich Project. He was the recipient of the BMI Songwriter Award in 2009. He remains the only British artist ever to be signed to Cash Money Records.

“Seeker only invests in music we genuinely love,” CEO Evan Bogart said in a statement.

“Jay Sean’s global hits are more than just songs, they’ve been part of our story, soundtracking our lives for over 15 years. You still hear them everywhere, and they resonate as strongly today. That’s the kind of impact we look for.”

“Bobby Bass” Larow boasts more than 3 billion streams on tracks he’s produced, written or remixed, including songs by Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Usher, Shakira, Big Time Rush, and many others, on top of his work with Sean.

He’s one half of the production team Orange Factory Music, along with Jeremy Skaller, who’s credited with helping discover Sean.

Meanwhile, New Jersey native Cardiak is known for producing tracks such as H.E.R.’s Damage, which earned him two Grammy nominations, J. Cole’s Love Yourz, Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR’s With You, PARTYNEXTDOOR & Rihanna’s Believe It, and Rick RossDiced Pineapples.

His credits also include work on Eminem’s Grammy-winning album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and Coco Jones’ recent and Grammy-nominated track Here We Go (Uh Oh).

“With Robert Larow’s incredible songwriting catalog and Cardiak’s genre-defining work across hip-hop and R&B, we’re bringing together catalogs that have not only topped charts but continue to shape culture in lasting ways,” Bogart added.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate and champion these legacies, ensuring these timeless songs keep reaching new audiences around the world.”’

“Evan’s instinct for recognizing not just great songs, but the markets and moments they can thrive in, is what sets Seeker apart.”

Robert Larow said having his music join Seeker’s catalog is “both an honor and an exciting new chapter” in his career.

“Evan Bogart and the team have built something truly visionary, a company that balances deep creative respect with a sharp, strategic view of where music is headed,” he said.

“Evan’s instinct for recognizing not just great songs, but the markets and moments they can thrive in, is what sets Seeker apart. I’m proud to have my work live alongside such legendary catalogs and to be part of a company that’s as forward-looking as it is rooted in great music.”

Cardiak added: “I’m super hype[d] to announce the sale of my music catalog, a collection that represents years of passion and creativity. Partnering with Seeker marks a new chapter, and I’m excited to see how they will bring this music to new audiences while preserving its essence.”

The Jay Sean, Larow and Cardiak catalogs are the latest in a run of prominent rights acquisitions by Seeker Music over the past few years, including the catalogs of Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Christopher Cross in 2023, and Return of the Mack singer Mark Morrison in 2024. Seeker also picked up the catalog of Christopher Cross producer Michael Omartian.

Other notable deals include a “substantial share” of the recorded and publishing rights of 80s rock icon Joan Jett; the publishing rights to British indie-rock band The Wombats’ first four albums; and the publishing rights of UK production duo Future Cut.

The company has also picked up rights from a number of prominent songwriters, including Jon Bellion (Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, Eminem), John Ryan (One Direction, Maroon 5, John Legend) and Phil Plested (Lewis Capaldi, Jonas Brothers, The Chainsmokers).

Seeker’s strategy has yielded fruit, not least when its track Tipsy by J-Kwon was interpolated into Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy), which is tied with Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road for longest-running number one song on the Billboard Hot 100.

The company now boasts a catalog of more than 15,000 copyrights.Music Business Worldwide
