Captain Harry Wilson saved the day with a last-gasp try – but the Wallabies’ patchy performance for an unconvincing victory over Fiji was summed up by the abundance of mediocre scores given to the 23 in The Roar’s DIY player ratings.
Wilson’s average score of 6.82 was the highest of any Wallaby who took to the field in Newcastle, with flanker Fraser McReight (6.65) the only other to so much as crack 6.5 – emblematic of a match which did little to improve hopes the team can given the British & Irish Lions a fight in their upcoming three-Test series.
Conversely, few had disastrous days either according to Roarers; just four Wallabies finished with ‘fail’ grades of below 5, with two Noah Lolesio, who can surely be excused after being stretchered off the field with a neck injury set to rule him out of all three Lions matches, and David Porecki, whose return for his first Test since the 2023 World Cup ended after failing a HIA midway through the first half.
According to the votes, the worst performer was Tom Wright at fullback, who twice through forward passes to cost the team tries.
