Byron Buxton might need to have a bobblehead day more often.
The Minnesota Twins centre fielder became the 12th player in franchise history to hit for the cycle in Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Buxton went 5-for-5, capping his outing with a 427-foot homer in the seventh inning to complete all four legs. He was replaced defensively in the eighth.
The 31-year-old recorded a single in the first inning, a triple in the second, a ground-rule double in the third, and added another single in the fifth for good measure.
It is the second cycle in MLB this season, following Chicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly, who achieved the feat in March against the Athletics. It is also the first cycle completed by a Twins hitter since Jorge Polanco in 2019.
Buxton is in the midst of his second all-star season with Minnesota. The 2012 second-overall pick leaves Saturday’s contest with 21 homers, a .286/.350/.571 slash line and is set to compete in the Home Run Derby on Monday.
