Just when the San Francisco 49ers’ offseason felt drama-free, Jauan Jennings has upset the balance by requesting a new contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Jennings, coming off a career year with 975 yards and six touchdowns, holds all the leverage. Despite not having the upside of Brandon Aiyuk or Ricky Pearsall, Jennings is the most consistent and proven receiver on the roster. Most notably, Jennings has played 15 or more games in three of the last four seasons.
San Francisco knows it cannot enter 2025 with Pearsall as the No. 1 receiver and little protection behind him. Aiyuk is still recovering from a torn ACL, DeMarcus Robinson is awaiting news on a possible suspension and no other receiver besides Jennings has caught more than five touchdowns in a season.
