Van Gisbergen dominates Sonoma, takes third win of 2025

Shane van Gisbergen put on another road-course clinic at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday.

A day after he barely missed out on a win in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, van Gisbergen started from the pole, won Stage 2 and led 97 of 110 laps to score his fourth career Cup Series win and his third of 2025.

“We had a great car,” van Gisbergen told TNT Sports. “The last couple years have been a dream come true. Hope I’m here for a long time to come.”

Despite a slew of yellows in the closing laps, van Gisbergen held off Chase Briscoe to earn the win. Chase Elliott was charging towards the front on fresh tires in the waning moments of the race, but a mistake with three laps to go took him out of winning contention.

Briscoe, Elliott, Michael McDowell and Christopher Bell rounded out the top five, with Tyler Reddick, Ty Gibbs, William Byron, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch completing the top-10.

Other notable finishers include Ryan Preece in 12th, Daniel Suarez in 14th, Denny Hamlin in 20th, Stage 1 winner Ross Chastain in 24th and Bubba Wallace in 26th.

The 21st race of the 2025 Cup Series season will take place at Dover Motor Speedway on July 20. The Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET, with coverage on TNT, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
