Baker Mayfield has been a surprising addition to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He came to the team after a few failed attempts to become a franchise QB, but he seems to have found his home with the Buccaneers.
Mayfield’s not Tom Brady, of course, who helped the Buccaneers win a title, but he’s shown an ability to learn this offense well and be a valuable contributor every week.
He has already stamped his place as one of the Buccaneers’ best quarterbacks in the past two decades, but there’s a chance he could be a part of their record books.
As analyst Greg Auman noted on X, Mayfield only needs 53 more touchdown passes before he becomes the Buccaneers’ all-time leader.
Baker Mayfield needs 53 touchdown passes to become the Bucs’ all-time career leader. He threw for 41 last year, so easy to hit that in next two years if he stays healthy. Says as much about Bucs’ history as it does Mayfield, but it’s there in 2026 if he just plays as he has.

Auman pointed out that Mayfield had 41 in 2024, so if he is anywhere close to that this year, he should be able to hit this mark by the end of the 2026 season.
The Buccaneers haven’t had that many dominant quarterbacks, which is why their career leader’s number is so low, but this is certainly something for Mayfield to strive for.
The team and their success come first, but it would be a great moment for him to be a historical figure for the organization, especially since the start of his career had many ups and downs.
His teammates and coaches seem to like him and what he does for them under center, and as long as their confidence in him continues, this team should be a contender in the NFC South for the foreseeable future.
