Xfinity Series team parts ways with driver after frustrating season

After it was announced that Kaz Grala would replace Kris Wright in the No. 5 Our Motorsports Chevrolet for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Dover Motor Speedway, Wright and Our Motorsports have officially parted ways, per Joseph Srigley of TobyChristie.com.

Grala will drive the No. 5 Chevrolet at Dover on July 19, with no other drivers being announced as of writing for the rest of the season.

Wright has struggled mightily during the 2025 campaign, even failing to qualify for the July 5 race at the Chicago Street Course. He sits 29th in the standings through 19 of 33 races, with his lone top-10 effort of the season coming at Martinsville on March 29.

Wright, who turns 31 on Thursday, is the 2018 IMSA LMP3 champion and has 34 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, 47 NASCAR Truck Series starts and 35 ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit.

The No. 5 Chevrolet has fallen to 36th in the owner standings, putting it at risk of missing races if its driver posts a qualifying time that is too slow.

Wright’s situation can be best compared to that of Hailie Deegan in 2024, who parted ways with AM Racing in July after a similarly poor campaign. Deegan stepped into the No. 15 Ford for AM Racing after Brett Moffitt collected nine top-10 finishes in the same car in 2023.

Similarly, Wright signed with Our Motorsports following the departure of Anthony Alfredo, who scored seven top-10 finishes and a 15th-place finish in the standings with the No. 5 team a year ago.
