Insider shares major LeBron James retirement update

LeBron James is about to enter his 23rd season in the NBA.

He’s never averaged fewer than 20.9 points per game, and he’s made an NBA-record 21 consecutive All-Star selections. He’s also gotten 21 All-NBA selections and is the league’s all-time leading scorer.

That’s why he doesn’t have anything else to prove at this point.

As such, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reports that people around the league believe that he’s ready to ride into the sunset.

“Many around the league are beginning to connect the dots that James may not sign another contract with the Lakers because he may not sign another contract at all,” Siegel wrote

The insider added that James might even be gearing up to announce that this season will be the end of the road for him.

“Everyone knows that retirement is on the horizon for LeBron, and multiple agents, scouts and rival team representatives shared with ClutchPoints that they believe James is gearing up to announce he will retire after the 2025-26 season,” Siegel continued.

James recently admitted that he wouldn’t play until the wheels fell off, and he’s addressed retirement multiple times in the past couple of years.

Even so, the timing of his retirement might not be the best. His younger son, Bryce Maximus, is gearing up to play his freshman year at Arizona, so he could technically enter the league two years from now. Running it back for an additional season after the 2025-26 campaign would give him an opportunity to team up with both of his sons.

James has accomplished almost everything any NBA player could strive for, and that might be the only milestone big enough to keep him up at night and make him stay for a little longer.
