The Detroit Lions have turned around the trajectory of their long-suffering franchise over the past couple of years, most recently setting a team record with 15 wins in 2024 on the heels of an NFC Championship Game appearance the season prior.
After getting upset by the Washington Commanders to cut their Super Bowl dreams short in the Divisional Round last season, there is a bitter taste for the Lions, and running back David Montgomery recently touched on that issue and sent a strong message ahead of the 2025 season.
““This is probably the hungriest that I have been because I feel like a lot of people kind of forget that I’m here in the offense too,” Montgomery said, via Eric Woodyard of ESPN.
#Lions RB David Montgomery says he has a big chip on his shoulder entering the 2025 season. “This is probably the hungriest that I have been because I feel like a lot of people kind of forget that I’m here in the offense, too,” he said.

Montgomery also added that the Lions are “tired of being close” to winning a Super Bowl after devastating postseason losses in back-to-back years.
The veteran has been a pivotal member of Detroit’s offense since signing as a free agent ahead of the 2023 campaign, rushing for 25 touchdowns in 28 games since his arrival.
Unfortunately, he was one of several Lions to go down with an injury late in the 2024 season, and when he returned for the playoffs, he didn’t look like himself, rushing for just 28 yards on seven carries in the loss to Washington.
Detroit has one of the most talented rosters in the NFL and should be in the Super Bowl mix again, and hopefully for Lions fans, the team’s experience of the past two years, combined with the big chip on their shoulder, can finally get them over the hump.
