Days after blocking Pete Samu from playing for the First Nations and Pasifika XV, Andy Farrell has made 20 changes to his side, including naming his son Owen as captain, for Tuesday’s tour match at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
Blair Kinghorn, the Toulouse-based star Blair Kinghorn playing in the French Top 14, was also named at fullback. His return to the Lions comes just days after Samu – the former French-based back-rower, who recently signed with the Waratahs – was denied the chance to play for the First Nations and Pasifika by the tourists because of a change in the “rules and regulations”.
After the Lions cruised to a 27-19 victory over the Wallabies on Saturday, Farrell left nothing to chance ahead of this weekend’s second Test by making wholesale changes to his team for Tuesday’s clash.
Ben Earl, Alex Mitchell and Marcus Smith are the three survivors from the opening Test victory, with the English trio to be injected off the bench.

Despite Farrell once again unleashing his second-string side, the respected coach has an embarrassment of riches up his sleeve to send out against Toutai Kefu’s hastily thrown together side,
England and Lions great Jamie George has been named at hooker for the first time this tour after being called into the squad from Argentina. He will pack down alongside Pierre Schoeman and Finlay Bealham.
James Ryan and Scott Cummins form a strong second-row combination, while Farrell has named an athletic and mobile back-row featuring Josh van der Flier, Jac Morgan and Henry Pollock.
The backline has some ready-made combinations, with Scottish trio Kinghorn, Duhan van der Merwe and Darcy Graham named.
Fin Smith and Ben White once again form the halves, while Owen Farrell will captain the side and link up with Irishman Jamie Osborne.
After Farrell called in reinforcements, Scottish hooker Ewan Ashman will play his first match on the tour and he’s joined by fellow front-rowers Rory Sutherland and Tom Clarkson.
Gregor Brown provides cover in the second-row, with Earl on the bench too.
There’s some quality backs on the bench with English duo Mitchell and Smith joined by Garry Ringrose, who missed the first Test because of injury but has the chance to apply some pressure.
“This fixture gives players another opportunity to put their hand up for selection for the final two Tests,” Farrell said.
“The coaches’ minds are open when it comes to selection, they have to be with so many players performing and pushing for places and we want that to continue for the remaining two Tests.
“This group know the level of performance that we will require against a First Nations Pasifika team that is packed with talent and power.”
