Packers sign key offensive lineman to a four-year extension

The Green Bay Packers have made a major investment in their offensive line by agreeing to a four-year, $88M extension with right tackle Zach Tom, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The deal includes a $30.2M signing bonus and makes Tom the fourth highest-paid right tackle in the league. This contract extension locks in one of the most versatile and efficient offensive linemen in the NFL.

Tom has been quietly developing into a cornerstone of the offensive line for the Packers since he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Since entering the league, Tom has gotten consistently better, and via PFF, graded out as the fourth best offensive tackle in 2024.

Starting every regular-season and playoff game in 2023 and 2024, he has been a durable and reliable player in one of the hardest positions in the NFL, and by signing him to a long-term deal, Green Bay can ensure that he remains in the building in his prime.

This move continues the trend of the Packers going all-in on protecting their young quarterback, Jordan Love. Earlier in the offseason, the team signed former 49ers guard Aaron Banks to a lucrative deal in free agency. They also drafted Jordan Morgan in the first round of the 2024 draft, and spent a 2025 second-round pick on Anthony Belton.

The next question the Packers will look to address is whether or not the team will extend left tackle Rasheed Walker. Walker, a seventh-round pick in 2022, has also become quite the success story for the team. While not as dominant as Tom, Walker has proven to be a reliable starting tackle that many teams will covet.

With the extension of Tom, the Packers are sending a very clear message regarding their offense. Their top priority is running the ball down the defense’s throat with Josh Jacobs, as well as protecting Love. If this unit gels, it could be the foundation of a dangerous offense for years to come.
