Bowles discusses receiving vote of confidence from Bucs ownership

Some members of the NFL community were surprised to learn in late June that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had signed head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Jason Licht to multiyear contract extensions.

During a recent chat with Ira Kaufman of the JoeBucsFan website, Bowles discussed receiving such a strong vote of confidence from team ownership.

“They don’t give you expectations,” Bowles said about the Glazer family. “They’ve been very supportive, more than anything else, rather than, ‘We expect this or we expect that.’ They never say that. They always are very supportive of what we do and understand and see the big picture. And we try to communicate, me and Jason, and we’re very honest as far as us talking to them. And we have a good relationship.”

Bowles is somewhat of a polarizing figure among the Tampa Bay fan base. While he guided the team to division titles across each of his first three campaigns in charge, he has thus far accumulated an unspectacular regular-season record of 27-24 with the organization. He most recently fell to 1-3 in postseason play as Tampa Bay head coach via this past January’s 23-20 wild-card loss to the Washington Commanders.

Nevertheless, there’s no indication Buccaneers ownership ever considered going in a different direction before Bowles and Licht inked their new deals.

“It’s year-to-year,” Bowles said about being in his role. “I don’t care if you win a Super Bowl. The next year, you got to prove yourself over again. And we got to prove ourselves over again, but we got to be a lot better finishing out ballgames.”

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter reported on June 26 that Bowles’ contract now runs through the 2028 season. During the JoeBucsFan interview, Bowles revealed that he had two years remaining on his previous agreement.

“They’ve been great,” Bowles added about the Glazers. “I mean, they tore up me and Jason’s contract, and we had two years left. So, that was great on their part and [I’m] very appreciative for me and Jason.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings tied for seventh among the betting favorites at +1300 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LX. Even if Bowles’ Bucs fall short of playing in the conference championship clash held in January 2026, it seems he now has nothing to worry about regarding his status with the club.
