Glenn Khobuntin will have a chance to etch himself in the PBA record books on Friday when TNT looks to push San Miguel Beer to the limit in the Philippine Cup Finals.

Khobuntin is expected to make his 75th appearance for the Tropang 5G in Game 6 at Philsports Arena in Pasig City that would set a mark for most games played in a single season.

“I was only told by the coaches that I’ve tied the record,” Khobuntin said after TNT’s 86-78 win in Wednesday’s Game 5 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

He had two points, three rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes during the contest that enabled him to tie current Tropang 5G team manager Jojo Lastimosa, Beermen assistant Ato Agustin, Johnny Abarrientos, Danny Ildefonso and Mike Mustre, as per PBA chief statistical Fidel Mangonon.

Agustin initially held the record of 74 on his own back in 1992 for San Miguel before Lastimosa and Abarrientos equaled that mark three years later while they were teammates with Alaska.

Ildefonso and Mustre, meanwhile, also played 74 times during the 1998 season for San Miguel.

The potential new record puts Khobuntin in a unique situation with several of his TNT pals forced on the sidelines or playing through injuries, especially in the ongoing Finals.

Khobuntin is the only player on the team not to miss at least a single game for the Tropang 5G during a season that saw them flirt with a historic Grand Slam with championships in the Governors’ Cup and Commissioner’s Cup.

“I’m thankful because at least I’m still able to play without any significant injuries,” he said.

TNT is down 3-2 in the series after foiling San Miguel’s first crack at the title and will be aiming to play the 76th game of the season with a win, with a chance at completing the rare trifecta.
