Josh Naylor’s stay in Arizona was short-lived.
The Canadian slugger was reportedly dealt by the Diamondbacks to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for pitchers Ashton Izzi and Brandyn Garcia, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Thursday.
Naylor, the 28-year-old left-handed hitter from Mississauga, Ont., has thrived in his first year with the NL West club, hitting .292 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs while playing nearly every day.
Arizona acquired him in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians for pitcher Slade Cecconi and a draft pick during the off-season.
However, the Diamondbacks have faltered, falling out of the playoff race and sitting fourth in the NL West at 50-53.
And so Naylor, who is set to become a free agent after the season, was dealt for future pieces.
Naylor began his career with the San Diego Padres before being traded to the Guardians midway through his second season in 2020.
Over 685 career games, he has 95 home runs and 402 RBIs.
