3 NBA Teams Were Reportedly Interested In Marcus Smart

Marcus Smart recently signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, bringing that team a level of experience and backcourt expertise that they need.

But before he agreed to terms with them, multiple other squads were looking at Smart.

According to Jake Fischer, per NBACentral, the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, and Atlanta Hawks held trade discussions with the Wizards.

“The Heat and Wizards even discussed a framework that would’ve sent Terry Rozier to Washington,” Fischer wrote.

Eventually, the Wizards bought out Smart, setting the stage for his new deal with the Lakers.

Smart split last season between two teams: the Memphis Grizzlies and the Wizards.

His season average was 9.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

Smart’s numbers dipped a bit last season, but the Lakers are hoping that he rebounds in the months ahead.

They think that his defensive abilities will be most helpful, and they believe he can look like the former Defensive Player of the Year that he is.

The Wizards were ready to move on from Smart, but they didn’t want to take on contracts they weren’t interested in.

That is why they passed up that offer from the Heat and instead just chose to buy out Smart.

This news indicates that Miami is prepared to let Rozier go, but it’s not clear which team will want to take him.

Heat fans should pay close attention to their team, because Rozier could be leaving soon.

As for Smart, he is ready to start a new chapter in Los Angeles alongside LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
