The team held workouts for four defensive players on Friday as they search for depth and competition throughout training camp.
The Patriots brought in cornerback Keydrain Calligan, linebackers Jimmy Ciarlo and K.J. Cloyd, and safety Kedrick Whitehead for evaluation, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.

Calligan stands out among the group after earning 2024 first-team All-Southland honors at Southeastern Louisiana.
The Houston Texans signed him earlier this year before releasing him in June.
His physical style and ball skills caught attention in college, along with his special teams contributions.
Ciarlo brings military discipline from his time at Army.
The New York Jets previously had him on their roster before waiving him with an injury designation last August.
Coaches have praised his motor and leadership qualities, viewing him as a developmental piece with special teams potential.
Cloyd has bounced between practice squads with multiple teams, including the Vikings, Giants, and Broncos.
He recorded 42 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss during his final college season, split between Louisville and Miami.
Denver signed him to a futures contract before releasing him in May.
Whitehead earned recognition as the UFL’s 2025 Special Teams Player of the Year while playing for the Michigan Panthers.
He logged 118 special teams snaps and made All-UFL honors as a cornerback.
The workouts reflect New England’s approach under Vrabel and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick.
They continue evaluating young talent to complement established players like safety Kyle Dugger and linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley.
None of the players have signed contracts yet.
The tryouts represent part of the Patriots’ broader effort to create competition and add depth as training camp progresses.
