The Jacksonville Jaguars needed another wide receiver, and they also needed a big-time cornerback.
That’s why they chose to address both of those issues with a single move, trading up to get Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Hunter made it clear throughout the pre-draft process that he intended to play on both sides of the field and urged teams that didn’t feel that way not to take him.
Nevertheless, Ryan Clark believes Hunter should play cornerback first, and he took to X to praise his instincts with a clip from practice.
Man!!! I’m going to die on the “TRAVIS HUNTER AT CORNER FIRST” hill. He was born to do it! #Halloffametalent pic.twitter.com/NWgBpMkimb

While Hunter is clearly a special athlete and could also be a great pass catcher, his ball skills and coverage ability make him an elite cornerback prospect.
More than that, enduring the physicality of a full NFL season is taxing enough for one-way players, so it’s hard to imagine he will be able to withstand the wear and tear that comes with playing both sides of the ball as a rookie.
He should play sparingly at wide receiver and full-time at cornerback, or vice versa.
It’s not a matter of whether he’s talented enough to play on both sides, but the Jaguars can’t expect him to hold his own against the top receivers in the game and then be at his best on offense.
It’ll be interesting to see how this develops, but it feels like Hunter and the Jaguars will have to make a decision at some point.
