Easton Lucas will start for the Toronto Blue Jays in the first game of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, the team announced.
The 28-year-old left-hander last appeared on the mound for the Jays in an 8-7 victory over the Athletics on May 31. Lucas came on in relief of starter Braydon Fisher and threw 4 2/3 shutout innings to record the win.
The Blue Jays previously turned to Lucas to start four games in April while the team navigated issues surrounding its starting rotation. Lucas had a promising debut in a 4-2 win against the Washington Nationals on April 2, during which he pitched five scoreless innings. He later dropped his final two starts and finished 2-2 during that stretch.
Lucas (3-2) has 22 strikeouts and a 5.82 ERA with the Blue Jays this season.
Meanwhile, right-hander Lazaro Estrada has been named the Blue Jays’ 27th man for both games of the doubleheader.
The Blue Jays lost 11-4 in the first game of the four-game series on Monday.
They enter play Tuesday with a 5.5-game lead on the New York Yankees in the race for first place in the American League East.
The Orioles, who are last in the East, have won three in a row.
