The New York Mets will be holding their breath after star Juan Soto left Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.
Soto was lifted in the bottom of the fourth after fouling a ball off his foot in the top half of the inning. The Mets officially ruled the 26-year-old out with a foot contusion.
He was in obvious pain after taking the 0-2 offering from Padres starter Ryan Bergert off his foot, but did finish the at-bat, however, grounding out to second base.
Tyrone Taylor was inserted in Soto’s spot as New York trailed 1-0.
Soto was 0-for-2 before leaving, bringing his slash line to .248/.382/.488 with 25 home runs and 15 stolen bases on the season.
New York signed the four-time all-star to a 15-year, $765 million contract this past off-season, and has found itself performing among baseball’s top teams in 2025.
The Mets entered play Tuesday atop the NL East with a 62-45 record, battling with the Philadelphia Phillies for the division lead.
